YEAR 8!!! Except this year I'll be volunteering rather than riding.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Being involved in the biotech field, I understand that funding is what drives research. Unfortunately, cancer is costly. When I say costly, I mean more than money, but let's start there: 1 in 184 americans will face a cancer diagnosis this year, and will cost each patient between $6,000-$10,000 per year out of pocket. To put that in perspective, my fundraising goal would not be enough to cover the treatment of a single patient for a single year. Cancer is costly to families, ruthlessly and aimlessly stealing life away from the unsuspecting. It is a scatter shot, haphazard in its range, and in order to subdue its costliness, we need to fund the defense. I am riding AGAIN this year because, beyond being physically able, I understand what my contribution can do. There are thousands of minds working on this problem, but those minds need our resources, and a little bit goes a very long way.
Thank you each for your contribution to this cause, and your commitment to defeat cancer.
