“Life is a capricious card dealer and when you’ve been dealt a bad hand you’ve got to deal with the realities of life and deal with it with what you can” - Brian O’Donovan.
This year I am riding in honor of three of my sisters, my sister-in-law and in memory of my dear friend, Brian O’Donovan, who succumbed to glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, on October 6, 2023. Cancer doesn’t just happen to other people. The disease becomes much more real when it happens to you or the ones you love. As a sustainability professional, protection and preservation of human health and the environment is my vocation. Cycling is my joie de vivre. This year, I will continue to direct funds raised to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Center for Neuro-Oncology. That's why I ride.
I’m one of 7 kids (Mary Patricia, Marguerite Ann (Peggy), John Joseph, Jean Marie, Kathleen Ann, Thomas Patrick (me), and Karen Ann (6th in line so I don’t complain). Three of my five sisters Peggy Johel, Mary Patricia Goodwin, and Kathy Enders have been affected by breast cancer (no, they don’t have the BRCA gene). My sister-in-law, Julie McEvilly, also from a big Irish Catholic family, is also a breast cancer survivor. I ride in earnest for each one of them, particularly for my sister Peggy, a survivor, who continues to strive to heal from the aggressive chemotherapy treatments used to rid her body of cancer.
This is my second PMC riding with Team 3G and hope you will give generously. If this is your first year contributing, please consider a minimum donation of $100. Sponsorship is easy using the PMC’s secure server at (https://www.pmc.org/egifts), just enter your credit card information and our eGift ID (search for Thomas Gloria and use the ID TG0154) or let me know if you prefer to mail a check and I can make arrangements. Please don't forget about matching gifts that are available to you through your company or other affiliations.
Each mile pedaled, each dollar raised brings us closer to a cure. For all our families and friends, we are proud to be part of this challenge. Please help me help Dana-Farber achieve its mission to defy cancer with revolutionary science, extraordinary care, and exceptional expertise. Make your contribution today.
