Billy Starr and 36 of his friends in 1980 rode from Boston to Provinetown to raise money for cancer treatment and research at the Dana-Farber Hospital in Boston. Now, 44 years later, Billy and some of the original participants are still riding along with 6500 of their closet friends and 3000 volunteers that support all of the riders. The date this year of the two day, 162 mile ride is August 3-4 rain or shine.
This is my 12th year riding the PMC. The team that I ride on, along with my son Benjamin ( 7th year) and Jason (2nd year) is Pedals 4 Pediatrics. I joinied the team the first year I rode the PMC with my daughter Samantha. Sam was then a pediatric oncology RN at Boston Childrens Hospital and the person who first challenged me to do the ride with her. Sam and I rode a few years together until two amazing boys interupted her training for now. However, she continues to dedicate her carrer as a nurse practitioner in pediatic oncology, which is simply amazing. Starting with my daughter and now riding with my two sons is one of the most amazing things that a father could possiby do with their kids. The Rosen family and the Pedal 4 Pediatric team has raised thousands of dollars over the years and WE ARE NOT FINISHED YET !!!
This year is really special for one reason only. CAN YOU SAY ONE BILLION DOLLARS !!!!! The total fundraising since the start of the ride in 1980 will top ONE BILLION DOLLARS this year. There is no other single event in the world that can even come close to the success of the PMC.
Why do we ride you ask. WE ALL MUST DO SOMETHING TO COMBAT THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE !!!! We have all lost friends and family to this disease. Two years ago our family lost a very close friend pictured below. Carl was 54 years old and died of pancreatic cancer. Our collective goal is to help cure as many kids and adults as we can and provide the money for the research to hopefully find a cure for all types of cancers. That is the least my family can do today.
Please help the three of us reach our collective goal of 30,000 dollars this year.
As always thanks for your continued support and generosity.
