Why I Ride ...
My dad loved cycling. Every year in July, he would bike the Erie Canal, followed a week later by RAGBRAI, "eating and cycling his way across Iowa," as he described it. When not outside, he would ride a stationary bike at the gym, drinking coffee and reading a newspaper, but somehow riding with an unfathomable intensity. In fact, he was a couple days into his ride across Iowa in 2010, when he thought he was coming down with the flu, which turned out to be Acute Myoblastic Leukemia. After several rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant, he died about a year later, just one day before my daughter was born.
This will be my second time doing the PMC. The first time was such an amazing experience, incredibly emotional and empowering. I can't think of a better way to honor my dad. I'm proud to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in its fight against cancer. I know that with your support and donations, it will be another successful ride.
