On February 14th, 2011, my dad, Steve Regan, left this life after a long battle with cancer. He fought hard and managed to fight the cancer for a ten year period. He endured many difficult treatments with true grit and determination. Even when his condition declined, he faced the day head on. Through to the end he kept his chin up, exercised his sense of humor so that others would not have to suffer along with him. He was an amazing father and grandfather, a valued friend and a truly honorable human being. He was a positive influence to every person he came in contact with.

So many times during my father’s illness, I felt helpless, wanting to do something that would make him better. I was not able to do anything to help my father alter the course of his disease, however by participating in the Pan Mass Challenge I have an opportunity to help raise money to fund cancer research. It is my greatest hope that some day there will be a breakthrough in the treatment of cancer. I feel obligated to do whatever is in my power to help end this horrible disease.

With a desire to honor my dad and help others with cancer, I will join my brother, Pat and thousands of others taking part in the Pan Mass Challenge. I will ride 190 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown over two days. 100% of the funds raised during the Pan Mass Challenge will be used to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s commitment to finding a cure.
