Spring 2025
My dear friends:
August 2nd – 3rd will mark my 12th PMC ride! Once again, I’m starting to prepare for the 186 mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown in an effort to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Though I certainly have a few more aches and pains than I did 12 years ago, my commitment to the PMC remains as strong as it was in 2014.
Last summer, the PMC reached the milestone of contributing over One Billion Dollars to Dana-Farber since its inaugural ride in 1980. In the current climate, the role of the PMC becomes even more important in advancing the crucial work of Dana-Farber. Proposed cuts to the National Institute of Health by the current Administration will gravely impact grants awarded to science institutions like Dana-Farber. So, those of us who ride, volunteer and contribute to the PMC all work to ensure that nothing stands in the way of funding cures for cancer.
The PMC is personal for me. Like you, I have seen friends and family diagnosed with this dreaded disease. Fran Smith, Wendi Hahn, Jeff Abber, my dad, Nate Harriman, Ruthy Marks,Tony Patella, Bruce K, Scott Raymaakers and Lou O. These are the people who inspire me to continue to pedal.
Unfortunately, the list continues to grow. This past February, our 36 year old daughter Judith underwent a mastectomy. Anticipating that she would be part of my PMC story this summer, she asked me to make sure that when I mentioned her, that it be done it in a positive way. It is precisely due to the advances made in treatment and detection of breast cancer that Judith’s prognosis is great. That is why I ride.
Due to generous corporate sponsors of the PMC, every dollar raised by PMC riders goes directly to Dana-Farber.
I would so appreciate you joining me and supporting my ride this summer. You may make your donation in one of two ways. If you prefer, you may write a check payable to the “PMC” and send it to me at my home address: 74 Bellmore Drive, Pittsfield, MA 01201. In the alternative, you may donate on line by going to https://profile.pmc.org/RS0332and clicking “Donate.”
With gratitude and affection,
Rich
