Why I Ride ...
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I ride because we are all touched by cancer- a family member a friend. My grandmother Sophie survived World War Two but died of lymphoma before I could meet her. My dear friend Ralp Gasparello, was treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma as a teenager, but the high doses off radiation caused a secondary cancer that took his life this year. I know several women who have battled breast cancer, in fact 1 in 9 women will face breast cancer. I also know that research has been making remarkable gains in understanding the illness and developing novel treatments.
Our dear friend Dimitri works hard everyday to fight brain cancer he developed as an eight year old. Recently the 3.6 miliion dollars raised by the PMC to fight Dmitri's kind of brain cancer funded a drug trial of a cancer medication called Ojemda, that was approved by the FDA. This is a great advance for a more targeted, effective and easier to tolerate treatment for a very common type of childhood brain cancer.
I ride to raise money and to join the fight against cancer. All of the funds I raise will go to support resesrch into childhood brain cancers, such as the one that Dmitri has been fighting. Please support this important cause with your donation!
