Last fall, after my PMC ride, my internist told me he thought I might be looking at a knee replacement.  The orthopedist he referred me to told me that I did have a knee replacement in my future but not for a few years and gave me cortisone shot.  When I told him I wanted to train for the PMC again, he told me I would have to take it easy and that I needed to understand that I would have a chance of damaging the knee more if I pushed too hard.

 So, I'm cnaging things up a little this year.   I am volunteering at the registration tent in Wellesley Friday and Saturday on PMC weekend and then on Sunday, August 4th, I will ride the 50 mile Wellesley to Wellesley loop of the PMC.  Cutting back to 50 miles is how I have defined “take it easy”; it means I can get away with shorter training rides.  Besides, if a six year old can gut it out through chemo, I can put up with some knee pain.  What’s cortisone for after all?

We all have our charities. I choose to focus my efforts on fund raising for a cure for cancer. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. One in four of us will face our own challenges with the disease during the course of our lives. The PMC is a way for the healthy to fight for the ill, and for all of us to invest in the future cure.

I'm raising money because I'm not smart enough to be a doctor, but I feel a great need to do something to defeat this horrible disease that has stricken so many of my friends and loved ones.
