I’m riding because I know how devastating cancer can be to those afflicted and their loved ones. Unfortunately, it’s still very common - according to the American Cancer Society about 40% of people will have it at some point in their lives and 20% of those will die from it. We’ve all been either impacted by it directly or know someone who has. We need to continue to fight it.
We’re making progress. My daughter was diagnosed with cancer when she was ten. Thanks to the miracles of modern cancer treatment, she underwent two surgeries and it was gone. She's seventeen now and about to enter her senior year in high school - I'm so grateful. So many others have not been as lucky, in part because the medical technology isn’t available yet, but it will be. Researchers at Dana-Farber have made over 75 major advances in cancer patient care and research since the Institute was founded in 1947, dramatically increasing survival rates. To ensure these life-saving breakthroughs continue, we need to continue to fund cancer research and care. That is why I’m riding.
