This summer I will be riding in the Pan Mass Challenge in honor of one of my best friends’ mother, who recently passed away after her battle with cancer. Betsy Morris-Rosen, Mrs. Rosen to me, was diagnosed with Duodenal Adenocarcinoma in late March of last year. She received treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and more recently at the Rothfeld center in Boston. She was treated by a fantastic team of doctors and nurses including Drs. Lin, Mueller, Isacoff and Rothfeld.
Mrs. Rosen has been incredibly kind to me through the years and I have enjoyed visiting her and the rest of the Rosens at their house in Wellesley as well as with her sister on the Cape two summers ago. Her son Grant and I have known each other since the third grade when we competed against each other in an after-school flag football league at Bates elementary school. We attended Wellesley Middle School together and were on the same bus route for three years before we both transferred to Nobles for high school. At Nobles, Grant and I became close friends through our physics class with Dr. Craft and through a host of amazing mutual friends such as Will, Martin, Tony, Andrew, Colby, David and Winifred. Through Grant I have gotten to know Betsy, Rob, Sam and Zoe well and am glad to be a part of their network.
Cancer is a disease that affects everyone over the course of a lifetime, whether directly or indirectly, and events such as the Pan Mass Challenge demonstrate our commitment to combatting the disease and standing by those it affects. Millions of dollars are poured in to cancer research every year and breakthroughs happen regularly. By supporting the PMC we are helping to make this disease more treatable and making strides toward wiping cancer off the map!
Please join with me in supporting cancer research at Dana-Farber
About the PMC:
The Pan Mass Challenge raises more money than any other athletic fundraiser in the country. Additionally, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s largest single donor and accounts for roughly 50% of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since its founding in 1980 riders have raised over $654 million to cancer research.
