On August 3rd I will join over 6,000 bicyclists in the Pan-Mass Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon that raises money for research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston. I've made a personal commitment to ride and raise $6,000, so I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal, which is part of the PMC's 2024 goal of $75M. 100% of your donation goes to DFCI.
My father, Norm Hildreth Sr. was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009. Because of the care he received his cancer was brought under control. However he developed other complications along the way and lost his fight to these in June 2011. My dad enjoyed the outdoors; sailing, kayaking, skiing, hiking, camping, as well as biking. He was always encouraging his family to enjoy nature, stay active and healthy, and he led by example. In one of the last conversations we had he asked that we all would, “take good care of each other, live healthfully, and enjoy life”.
I will be riding for TEAM NUDAY again, named after one of my Dad's favorite sail boats, with my brother Mark on the 111 mile Sturbridge to Bourne leg. In late 2022 Mark was diagnosed with prostate cancer and because of the exemplary work of DFCI and Mass General Hospital he beat cancer. I am very proud of my brother who has worked hard to build his health & stamina back to do this extraordinary ride! He is Living Proof!
Our brother-in-law Scott, who has ridden the PMC for the past few decades and who got us both into riding the PMC, is going through his own battle with cancer this past year. The care and treatment that DFCI has given him over the last several months has been outstanding with positive results. Our ride is especially dedicated to him this year. He is Living Proof!
I am riding for my Dad, my brother, my brother-in-law, members of our extended family, friends, colleagues, and others who continue to receive treatment for cancer or have had their cancer brought under control, as well as in honor of those who have passed on.
Any donation amount is very much appreciated! If you are unable to donate, no problem. Words of encouragement are always welcome as well as sharing stories about your fight, a family member’s fight, or a friend's fight with cancer.
To your good health!
Thank you!
Norm (aka Chip) Hildreth Jr
Donations are accepted up until September 30th
