Hello family, friends, and colleagues. I hope all is well.

It’s that time of year again! I will be riding my 36th consecutive Pan-Mass Challenge. On August 3rd & 4th, the PMC community will come together from all corners of the world with one mission: to raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t skip over the people we love. It doesn’t care how old you are or how nice you are. Together, we will get closer by the mile to a world without cancer.

This year I am dedicating my ride to Linda Walters (Debbie’s sister) who passed in February after battling cancer 8 times in her 65 years. When Linda was 4 she had a brain tumor and went to Dana Farber in 1963. They miraculously removed the tumor. She did however lose most of her eyesight and was legally blind. Linda was a Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and friend. and we can still hear her laugh. Linda had a great sense of humor and never let her challenges keep her down.

For the past 36 years, I have put in the miles to contribute to a cure. I cannot believe how the years have flown by. When I got on my bike to ride my first PMC in 1989, it sounded like a fun and active weekend. I did not expect to experience so much joy, sadness, inspiration, and every emotion in between. I have made friends that are more like family, brought together in the fight against the monster that is cancer. My PMC memories bring both laughter and tears. Debbie, Jessica, Haley, my mom, and YOU have supported me throughout the years. For that, I am so appreciative.

When I register for the PMC each year, I sign up for a fundraising mission first and a bike ride second. The effort to raise money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is the heart and soul of the PMC. 100% of every dollar PMC cyclists raise goes directly to the Jimmy Fund. This year’s goal is $75 million which will bring total PMC contributions to over $1 BILLION since 1980 that finances research in its earliest stages. Known as seed money, PMC funds enable clinicians and scientists to pursue innovative research. This early support has fostered the development of some of the most crucial advances made in cancer research.
