Friends and Family,
After a 4year hiatus from riding I am back once again to ask for your continued support! This year marks my 4th time riding the Pan Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) to benefit the research and treatment performed at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). In years past I have ridden on behalf of friends, coworkers, and family, which I will also do this year, however I am dedicating this year’s ride in honor of my brother Shaun who was unfortunately recently diagnosed with metastatic renal cell cancer.
Since 1980, the PMC has contributed $717 million, which finances research in its earliest stages. Known as seed money, PMC funds enable clinicians and scientists to pursue innovative research that has the potential to achieve the results that will warrant National Institutes of Health (NIH), or other private and government grants. At a dinner I recently attended, the president of Dana Farber spoke to this when he told the crowd about a child who was able to receive experimental treatment for a rare aggressive cancer at no cost, all due to funding directly supplied via the PMC.
As you may remember from my letters of years past, 100% of money fundraised goes directly to DFCI through the Jimmy Fund. This is made possible through corporate sponsors, which support the daily operations of the PMC, allowing all donations to proceed directly to DFCI. Because of you, over the 3 years I have ridden I was able to raise and contribute over $27000! This year my fundraising obligation is $5500, but I do not feel that is good enough so my year 4 goal is $10,000.
Your tax deductible donations can be made online by visiting my rider page at www.pmc.org/nc0092 and then clicking on the “Donate To My Ride” link - or - by personal check made payable to “PMC.”
