This will be ride number 13 for me! I went to Colgate University and thirteen is a lucky number for the Colgate community. My wife and I just had an amazing time there for our 30 year reunion. I love being part of great communities like Colgate and the PMC!

I was also in Boston recently for one joyful and one and sad occassion: my niece's high school graduation and the unveiling of my dad's gravestone. My dad was a big fan of the PMC and loved when the family would come to Boston for PMC weekend. Many years, he would come to Provincetown for the day to watch me finish and to celebrate the day with me and my family.

It's also been three years since I lost my brother-in-law Mike Yuil. His battle with stage IV colon cancer was a tragic reminder of how important it is to support cancer research. The medical team that treated Mike runs on the funding from the Jimmy Fund and the PMC.

The support from Mike's friends, our family, and the PMC community was tremendous. It was humbling to ride with his picture pinned to my back the last three years and I can't tell you how many PMC riders I've never met before came up to me to offer sincere condolences.

I'm a cancer survivor - it's been over 25 years since my diagnosis and treatment of testicular cancer. Who could have imagined back then that I would now have a beautiful family - my wife Jenn, my son Edward (11), and my daughter Chloe (9).

This is why I ride. I'm riding in Mike's honor and to celebrate his life. While also being so, so thankful of what I have in my own life. I'm always reminded of both sides of the battle: the tragedies of what cancer takes from us, and the reminders that these trials give us to really cherish life and what we have with each other.
