I am honored to be riding the 2024 Pan Mass Challenge. This will be my third year riding the PMC, biking ~170 miles and raising money for cancer research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It wasn't until I rode in 2019 that I realized how truly special the PMC is and the impact that it has. I was in awe by the number of riders and volunteers, the people cheering and watching along the route, and the heart of the event that is those who are living proof and those who have lost loved ones all rallying together on this physical journey while raising money to find a cure. I am riding for them and for all of my family and loved ones who have fought, are fighting, or who courageously lost their battles with cancer.
This will also be my third year riding with the CRUS11TOUR team, made up of over 100 riders.
Team mission:
CRUS11TOUR is the name that David (Davey) Hovey gave to his battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Davey grew up in Simsbury, CT and Chatham, MA. He graduated from Westminster School and then St. Lawrence Univ., where he captained the Lacrosse team in 2013. He was just 25 years old when he was diagnosed and fought bravely through multiple surgeries, seizures and treatments as he had every intention of “crushing” his tumor. Sadly, Davey passed away after a courageous 16-month battle. During this time, he partnered with Golf Fights Cancer, raising substantial funds through participation in their 100-hole Golf Marathon (June 2016) as well as initiating a 9 member Boston Marathon Team (April 2017). He left behind a loving family and many close friends, all of who have vowed to keep his CRUS11TOUR legacy alive. His strength and competitive spirit have motivated many to raise money for important brain cancer research, specifically being conducted by Dr. David Reardon and his team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Davey taught us many valuable lessons during his battle with cancer: the importance of family and friends, giving back, and always to “Keep the Faith”!! CRUS11TOUR never ends!
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. Last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. The money I raise will go towards both Glioblastoma and Sezary Disease cancer research at Dana Farber. Thank you so much for supporting me!
