Why I Ride ...

Cancer affects every one of us. Unfortunately, almost half of Americans will hear the words “You have cancer” in their lifetime. For the lucky ones who escape the diagnosis, someone else in their life will receive it. Three years ago, I became part of the diagnosis half. It is important for me to say that I am currently physically and emotionally well and very grateful! This is in large due to a team of awesome doctors, therapists, nutritionists, researchers and my amazing friends.

I have personally witnessed the work that takes place at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I have participated in a clinical study. I participate in a support group. I meet with doctors regularly who scrutinize my test results and tell me what is being studied, what is on the horizon and what prognosis improvements are being realized. In the last ten years, the survival rate for my cancer type has doubled from 5 to 10 years. I have met people 20 years in who are still going strong. I’m hoping to be one of them!

Huge progress has been made but there is still so much work to be done! Improvements are a result of the very critical research that is conducted. Future funding of cancer and other medical research Is currently in flux as Federal cuts have been made. Rather than rant on social media, I have decided to ride the 85 mile 1-day, Pan Mass Challenge this year to help make a difference.

I will need to ride thousands of miles to train for the event. This is the easy part. The harder part for me is to ask every single person I know to sponsor my ride. There is no such thing as a donation too small. Every dollar raised provides funding to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I’m asking for your help. Will you please make a donation of any amount?
