UPDATE- Sadly, after a year of planning, training, etc., in a matter of seconds on July 9th, my goal to ride my third PMC came to a very painful end. I broke my arm in two places crashing shoulder first into a sidewalk during a training ride. Despite this, I am still trying to reach my goal below. And, if surgery and recovery go well, will be doing a smaller version of my planned route in November, and will be coming back stronger than ever next year to mark what would have been my grandfather's 100th birthday by doing a century on the same route I planned for this year.
20|99|15|1 BILLION
What do those four numbers represent.
20- it represents the 20th anniversary of my Grandpa Carl’s death from multiple myeloma in 2004
99- it represents what would have been Grandpa’s 99th Birthday this year.
15- it represents the 15th anniversary of my cousin Eric’s death from brain cancer in 2009.
1 BILLION- The total amount of money the Pan-Mass Challenge has raised since 1980 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
And one more number, 11, that one represents how many years it has been since I strapped on my shoes and helmet, mounted my bicycle and rode in my very first Pan-Mass Challenge in 2013. And this year will also mark my return to doing just that all over again. This time, not as a traditional rider, but as a Reimagined Rider. I will be riding the Cape Cod Rail Trail in August in memory of my Grandpa Carl, my cousin Eric, and in honor of my Uncle Rob, who thanks to DFCI, we still have in our family today. I ask that you donate whatever you can to help me reach my goal for $2099.15, and help the Pan-Mass Challenge get to their goal of $1 Billion for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Thank you.
PS- I am happy to announce that i am once again riding with the Patriots Platelet Pedalers, raising money for Dr. Kenneth Anderson, the Kraft Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, to support his multiple myeloma research and development of novel therapies. Just one more way of honoring my grandpa's life and memory.
