Dear Supporters,
The Story
I have signed up for my 2nd PMC, the first one I hope to actually ride. The comeback year. Last year I set the goal to ride my first PMC in honor of my dear friend Melissa Eleey (and many others). On July 21st, two weeks before the ride, I stepped on a rusty tent stake, hidden in the grass just outside our local softball fields, while I was enjoying a Sunday afternoon at the park watching my husband play in the Hanover men's softball league. After an ER visit, a couple of x-rays, antibiotics, tetanus shot, phone consultations with a podiatrist and in-person visits with another podiatrist... I had to bail on the ride. I had surgery to remove a foreign object on my foot the Monday after PMC weekend. My recovery was at least 6 weeks, with some residual issues a few weeks more. Devastating doesn't describe how I was feeling. I had trained hard and fundraised harder. This I dubbed The Mulligan Year.
I was able to participate in the weekend, cheering outside my aunt Nancy's house in Barnstable, Brewster and P-Town. And then waited at the beach 1 mile from the finish line at Provincetown Inn. I took off the boot and hopped in with Melissa and Nicole to cross the finish line with them both. It was probably my top moment of the year.
Fast forward to late 2024 and now into 2025, Melissa is still fighting Stage IV Breast Cancer. We need a cure. All funds raised on my personal page will be directed to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research. I hope that every dollar I raise will only further help Melissa and so many others.
On January 3, 2025, I attended the wake of my dear friend Emily's dearest friend Marie. I met Marie years ago while we were in college. Marie had the kindest heart, sense of humor and humbleness about her. Marie was diagnosed in 2020 and sadly passed away from Metastatic Breast Cancer, as it aggressively took over her body. She left behind two beautiful children (7 and 5) and her soulmate, Alex. This year, I will also add Marie to the list of people I ride for; sadly, in her memory.
Melissa is one of my whys, I finally signed up for PMC in 2024, something that has been on my bucket list for years. Over the years, whether in Bourne, West Barnstable or Eastham, I've cheered and watched the many cyclists go by.
Honoring Many
I am also riding in honor of my grandmother Honey, recently diagnosed with Lymphoma at the wise age of 93. She's a warrior and inspiration; Dad's younger sister Mary (breast cancer survivor) and younger brother John (Follicular Non Hodgkin Lymphoma, currently cancer free after his treatment cycle last year). My aunt Mary is one of my role models, as a wife, mom, teacher; and my uncle John inspires me through his love of the outdoors, being a cool dude uncle and great dad. My college ice hockey coach and dear friend, Anne Bacon Blair Hudak, also a breast cancer survivor. My dear Hanover friend Ming Koslowsky, also fighting breast cancer.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support my fundraising efforts. Please join me in raising at least $10,000 for PMC for my 2nd PMC year. My stretch goal is another $25,000.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading the charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Note: I have chosen to hide the names of my sponsors on my page this year to provide anonymity.
