The American Cancer Society says that roughly 40% of Americans will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetime. As I think about my family and friends, that statistic seems shockingly accurate. I’m stunned by how many people I know that have been impacted by this terrible disease.
One of the reasons that I ride in the PMC is to celebrate the people I know, love, and respect who are living proof that we can beat cancer, and to support those who are currently fighting cancer.
I also ride to show my deep respect for those who work in oncology every day. My wife has dedicated her career to helping eradicate cancer. She and her colleagues are absolute hero’s for the work they do and they deserve to be celebrated.
I also ride to honor the memory of loved ones who have lost their battle, to support their families, and in hope that others will never have to suffer like that. We've all lost too many people to cancer.
Finally, I ride in hopes that future generations see significantly less of this awful disease. The practical thing we’re doing is funding world class research that is making breakthroughs. I believe in the research and the benefits it has and will continue to bring. As a result, my daughters, my nieces, my nephews, my cousins, and their entire generation will live in a world where cancer is increasingly less prevalent.
