I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer through resources going directly to research at two amazing institutions. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I am dedicating my ride to a multitude of different people this year. The first is my dad, my dad was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2021 and I have seen first hand how important cancer research is to patients and families learning of and treating a cancer diagnosis. During this time I have felt somewhat helpless, living several hours away and unable to support my parents through this journey as much as I would have wanted has been frusrtating. I'm participating in the ride in order to support other families going through this.
The second person I am dedicating my ride to is a student from the school I teach at.Two years ago one of the 6th graders at my school was diagnosed with cancer, and unfortunately he passed away at the beginning of March 2022. Dana Farber was a great financial and emotional support for him and his family through this horrible experience. Additionally, social workers and other supports were provided to students and staff to support their learning about, processing, and grieving of their friend and student.
Last year I met some amazing women as a part of Team Duncan who are cancer survivors and living proof of the difference the PMC makes in the lives of cancer patients at Dana Farber. Riding with them, learning about their journey, and becoming friends has been amazing. I can't imagine riding without them and am so thankful for the treatment and care they recieved at Dana Farber.
Additionally, several of my friends' parents have unfortunately been recently diagnosed with or had a relapse with their cancer this year. This affects so many people, young, old, family, friends, strangers. Please support my ride, my friends, my family, our community!
