Why I Ride ...
I'll get right to the point. Cancer sucks and can completely upend your life in a heartbeat. As many of you know, our daughter Sabina, passed away in the fall of 2022 after a valiant four-year battle with clear cell sarcoma. We miss Sabina every day. But her passing only makes my passion for fighting cancer stronger and for helping to prevent other people from suffering from this dreaded disease. This August, I will participate in my 13th Pan Mass Challenge Ride. As per usual, my cycling crew and I will make this a three-day event. We’ll be doing a different starting point- we will roll out of our driveways and meet up to bike about 70 miles to Sturbridge for the traditional 2 day Sturbridge to Bourne to Provincetown ride. All together we'll ride 260 miles over the three days as we pedal to help conquer cancer. Joining me on my ride will be two friends who are cancer survivors- living proof that we can conquer cancer.
The Pan Mass Challenge (www.pmc.org) is the biggest fundraiser of its kind in the world. Last year, we raised a remarkable $72 million (and a staggering $972 million since the ride's inception). This year we will break the $1 billion dollar mark!! As always, 100% of the money raised is devoted to fighting cancer. This will be my fifth year as part of the Sarcoma Cycling Brigade, a team of riders and volunteers who are raising funds specifically for sarcoma research. Sarcomas are rare cancers and as such do not get the same attention as other more prevalent cancers. Our goal is to raise as much money as we can, both as a team to fight sarcoma, and as PMC riders and volunteers to fight all cancer.
Thank you for considering a donation to my ride (or a donation to another participant). Together we can make a difference in the battle against cancer, while remembering those who we loved and lost and those who are bravely fighting cancer.
Be well,
Ken
