The Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride has been a very important organization to my family for many years. For as long as I can remember, my grandmother, mom, aunts, and siblings have devoted their time and efforts volunteering for the PMC weekend to support a great cause. My uncle Jimmy introduced my family and I to the PMC back in 1998. This was Jimmy's first ride ever to honor and support his mother & my grandmother for successfully beating cancer. Fast forward to 25 years of commitment to the PMC, Jimmy has made this ride a part of his life honoring many different people along the way.
In June of ‘23, Jimmy was diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) causing him to be hospitalized for several months, missing what would be his 25th PMC ride. In October of '23 Jimmy received a bone marrow transplant to replace the previously cancerous marrow. Just 10 months post-transplant, he was back in the saddle for Day 1 of the ‘24 PMC to Mass Maritime to officially complete his “25th” ride. Throughout Jimmy’s journey, there have been many ups and downs but in December of ’24, he was declared cancer free.
This August, I am proud to say we will be making the two-day journey to Provincetown together as I’m back for year three and Jimmy for year 26 as living proof.
Unfortunately, cancer hits too close to home for many. Dana Farber and the PMC help to shine a light at the end of the tunnel. All donations are greatly appreciated. Thanks to all those who support!
