Welcome to my fundraising page.
I am riding to support The Zaff Family Fund at Dana-Farber. This fund was created to support new research into Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD), a very common--and deadly--complication from stem cell transplants.
Why?
Because Esther, my wife and mother of our two daughters, struggled with GVHD after her transplant in 2007. She--and up to 60% of unrelated transplant recipients--contend with the often-debilitating and frequently life-threatening consequences of GVHD every day. The world-class physicians and researchers at Dana-Farber are developing new theories and protocols for the prevention and cure of GVHD, and they need our support to get to the finish line.
Dana Farber provided the medical, social, and emotional support that we all needed and the Farber gave us 15 more, wonderful years together that I know we wouldn't have had without them. Too many people need similar supports and every dollar of the funds raised for my ride go toward that support.
Here are two short videos of Dr. Joseph Antin, head of the Stem Cell Transplant program at Dana Farber, talking about the importance of research on GVHD:
