On August 3rd and 4th, I will ride from Wellesley to Provincetown as part of the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). I'm asking you to join me again in supporting Dana Farber Cancer Institute with a tax-deductible donation of any amount. It adds up!
This ride will be my second with the PMC. The first leg is 90 miles from Newton to Borne (via the PMC start at Babson), followed by a 76-mile ride over the Borne Bridge and to Provincetown on Sunday.
As one of the most impactful athletic fundraisers in the world, the Pan-Mass Challenge is at the forefront of the battle against cancer. 100% of rider-raised revenue directly supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding cures. Our 121-member team, the FLAMES (Fast Legs and Minds Eliminate Suffering), has set an ambitious goal to raise $1.3 million this year for the lymphoma and leukemia labs at Dana-Farber. The PMC will reach a cumulative $1 Billion raised this year. These funds have a profound impact, funding named fellowships and basic research that drive advancements in treatment and care. Your donation, regardless of size, is not just a contribution but a significant part of this lifesaving work.
Our team is not just a group of riders but a community of individuals directly impacted by cancer. We have doctors who have treated or advised our family members. Dana-Farber's dedication and expertise have touched our lives as they have for countless other families.
Let me share a story that embodies the reason we ride. This year, Zoey, our team's pedal partner, turned eight on June 8th. She is finishing a two-year active battle against T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her spirit and determination are inspiring and a testament to the strength of the human spirit. When asked how she will celebrate, she excitedly said, I am having a swim party! Everyone will get to swim and eat cake! Zoey's strength and resilience in the face of cancer fuel our commitment to this cause, and we hope it inspires you, too.
Last year, our team's efforts were instrumental in funding two fellowships, and research papers cited the team for our support. The PMC will achieve a remarkable milestone this year, hitting $1 billion raised since its inception. Every dollar riders raise goes directly to Dana-Farber, making each contribution crucial in the fight against cancer.
I kindly ask for your support in this effort. Regardless of size, your donation will contribute to lifesaving research and care for those battling cancer. Together, we can make a significant impact.
