I'm back for Year 3!
In 2023, I participated in the PMC as a first-time rider. I signed up initially in memory of my two grandmothers who both lost their battles with pancreatic cancer; I wanted to ride in their memory and help raise money to continue the fight against cancer.
While my grandmas passed when I was younger, cancer unfortunately has continued its impact - while not me directly or immediate family on friends and family members - it is something that is going to continue its impact until we can beat it. So I'm coming back again to continue our fight against cancer.
This will be my 2nd year riding for Team Daisy. Team Daisy was started in honor of Margaret 'Daisy' Locke who was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor at the age of 2. Team Daisy has raised over $5M to-date and helped the PMC cross the $1B fundraising total for cancer research, last year. Unfortunately, we lost Daisy this past year to her battle but we continue to ride on in her memory.
Personally, and while all aspects of the off-bike PMC weekend activities have been great experiences, admittedly the bike ride has always been more challenging than I'd hoped (admittedly, I undertrained...x2). This year, my personal goal is to be able to enjoy the ride more and actually train - we'll believe it when we see it.
If you would like to support Team Daisy and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, please consider donating.
You can use the RTRT.Me app to track rider progress (available for iOS and Android) or the RTRT.me website). If you do decide to track me, I'm going for the tortoise approach again this year so no need to worry if it appears I'm moving slowly - I'll cross the finish line.
Thanks,
Jay
