25 years ago my mom got the call that 200,000 Americans are likely to get this year. Breast cancer. 12 years of remission after an aggressive round of early treatments and our hopes were shattered yet again. This time metastatic bone cancer was revealed after one of her periodic scans. In May of 2018 came the diagnosis of additional metastases in her brain and liver. Similar to one-third of all patients diagnosed with breast cancer, my mom found herself entrenched in a multi-front battle involving a team of oncologists and a number of specialists all trying to halt the progress of a devastating disease. After a long fight, her body succumbed to the disease on August 1st, 2019, just a few days before our inaugural ride as the Miles for Mom team in the jerseys that she helped design. So while one-third of all breast cancer cases will eventually result in stage IV metastatic breast cancer, only a very small fraction of the funds raised for breast cancer are spent on researching these later stages. With this in mind, and the memories of our mom and the hope of better treatments for countless other moms, we ride to raise awareness (and money) for metastatic breast cancer. We will direct our funds toward the metastatic breast cancer research team within Dana Farber.

The PMC has raised over $900 million since 1980 and, as its single largest contributor, has helped Dana Farber become the cancer fighting juggernaut that it is today. Multiple new treatments are born from these funds and approved by the FDA each year, giving hope to patients who previously had none. Thank you for your support over the years!
