Why I Ride ...
After five years of supporting my wife Sara as she rode in the PMC, and empowered by the sense of hope and purpose this amazing experience instilled, I decided it was time for me to buy a bike and become more actively involved in this important event. 2018 was my first PMC ride and I have been riding ever since. I am eager to participate again this year. Over time I have realized that cancer doesn't discriminate; it doesn't pay attention to race, color, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry and/or disability. I have yet to know someone who hasn't been affected, directly or indirectly, by this insidious disease. Great strides have been made in the detection and treatment of some cancers, but there are miles to go with others.
I ride in the PMC because it is leading the charge to beat all forms of cancer. I ride because 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I ride because last year we rasied a collective $72 million, bringing the total amount raised for DFCI by the PMC over it's 44-year history to $972 million. Most significantly, I ride in honor of and in memory of too many friends, relatives and colleagues who have battled one of the many forms of cancer, some successfully and others not. In particular, I ride in memory of Davey Hovey, who succumbed to glioblastoma at age 26 and who is the inspiration for the Crus11tour team on which I am a member. I ride because my efforts, along with the 6000+ riders who will join me on the PMC this summer, bring us closer by the mile to winning the fight to cure cancer.
