Why I Ride ...
Dear Family, Friends, Patients and Colleagues:
I am honored to once again be riding in the PMC along side colleagues from my Needham-based cycling team, The Biker's Dozen. I continue to be inspired by so many of my friends, colleagues, patients and countless cancer survivors who have participated in this cancer fundraising event over the years.
As a medical oncologist who has spent his career in the Mass General Brigham system and who now hopes to impact on oncology care in Florida at Jupiter Medical Center, I continue to dedicate my professional life to caring for cancer patients and their families. I know all too well the critical role cancer research plays in the development of more effective therapies. The money raised in the PMC can help move us that much closer to achieving the ultimate goal - a universal cure!
In addition to approaching my patients as if they were part of my own family, I also continue to feel more of a personal connection to the PMC mission as I help my own relatives and friends navigate their lives while confronting cancer diagnoses, treatment, and survivorship. At both work and at home I am reminded every day of how much cancer can impact every one of us. As I continue to sit with my patients receiving chemotherapy, giving hugs to a patient or colleague having a tough day (now again a reality in the post-pandemic era), or discussing a parent's diagnosis with their children, I am surrounded by daily reminders of what the PMC is all about.
I hope you will be inspired and contribute to this worthy cause. Your involvement is so truly appreciated.
With gratitude,
Jon S. Du Bois, MD
