I truly cannot say enough amazing things about the PMC and how crucial the fundraising we do is for Dana Farber as it raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country which is why I am doing it for the 4th year.
My story:
Ever since I was a little kid, the Pan-Mass Challenge has held a special place in my heart. I was just 7 years old when my dad rode his first PMC as I held a sign that read “Go Daddy Go!”, cheering him on as he crossed the finish line after riding for a cause I didn’t yet fully understand.
Later on, I started volunteering at the Brewster water stop. That’s when the impact became more clear. I loved filling their water bottles and talking with riders, always thanking them for riding. But I’ll never forget the moment a rider turned to me and said, “No, thank you for volunteering.” As they rode away, I saw photos of loved ones pinned to their jerseys with faces of people they lost to cancer. My heart sank, I remember thinking, How can they be thanking me when they’re the ones biking 200 miles through physical pain and emotional grief? That’s when I realized that this fight is bigger than just one person. Ending cancer takes a community. It takes an army. And that’s exactly what the PMC is.
The PMC has become a huge part of the CHEV family and although it will only be my sister Amanda and Rachel riding this year we are proud to carry on the legacy and raise money for this amazing cause.
My dad, who is living proof and my biggest inspiration for riding, was diagnosed with cancer at 17 and faced aggressive chemotherapy at an age when he should have been worried about prom and graduation, not survival. His strength is what motivates me. You can read more about his journey here: http://profile.pmc.org/TC0142.
But not every story ends like my dad’s. That’s why I ride. I’ll be pedaling in honor of both of my grandfathers, who also battled pancreatic cancer. Poppy, the definition of relentless, is living without a pancreas. And my Morfar, who we lost a few years ago, continues to be a guiding force in my heart.
Cancer has touched too many lives. I’m sure you know someone who has been impacted. That’s why this year, I’m riding with Team Lick on August 2nd and 3rd, 2025, and I’m aiming to raise $6,000 to support groundbreaking cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
My ride will be motivated by hope, purpose and with your help, we can get closer to ending cancer. Ride on Baby!
