Why I Ride (Again and Again):
https://profile.pmc.org/JB1092
I ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge again and again to fight back against cancer’s cruelty—its audacity to steal time, break bodies, and test spirits. I ride to stand with the fighters, to honor those we’ve lost too soon, to carry the torch of hope, and to advance the science that will change the course of this disease.
This year, the ride feels even more urgent.
My mom—our fearless matriarch, and the beating heart of our family—is facing intensifying challenges. Her cancer has progressed. The tumors are growing. But her resolve is stronger than ever. She continues to fight with the same grit and grace that has carried us all through life. She is our nourisher, our hugger, our fixer, our chef—and above all, our warrior.
And my brother Rick—the trailblazer, our steady protector—has courageously endured over three months of hospitalizations just this year alone, and he continues to fight with outrageous spirit and unwavering courage. His example reminds us every day what it means to show up with grace, grit, and love in the face of relentless adversity. His strength humbles me.
I ride for them.
I also ride with gratitude for the incredible clinicians and scientists at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute—my personal mecca for care and my professional north star. Experts like Dr. Jennifer Chan in the Neuroendocrine Tumor Center and Dr. Benjamin Schlechter in the Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer Program represent the best of what’s possible when compassion meets innovation. They are fighting on the front lines, and they are why I have hope.
I ride with Team Wolfpack from Wolf Greenfield, led by my partner Christina Licursi, as we honor the memory of her parents, Tony and Helga, and for those we cherished and lost this past year. Together, we turn grief into purpose and loss into motion.
And in my work, through Mink Therapeutics and Agenus, I’ve committed my life to developing immunotherapies that are smarter, kinder, and more effective—treatments that offer real hope without breaking the human spirit.
Along the way, I’ve met extraordinary patients—brave souls who volunteer for clinical trials, contribute to science, and challenge what’s possible for future generations. They are our greatest teachers. I ride for them too.
