I am excited to be riding in my 20th PMC this summer.

Once again, I will be riding as a member of Paul’s Posse. The Posse was formed to support our friend Paul Schaye in his fight against GIST. He continues to thrive on, and once again will be leading the team. Paul continues to be a direct beneficiary of the work done at DFCI.

The PMC is the world’s largest athletic fundraiser. Five thousand people ride the 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown to raise over $60 million for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

My connection to the PMC is very personal. My father is treated for CLL at DFCI. He has participated in two trials there over the past ten years and is alive due to the miracle of modern medical care. My dad is my hero, and his grace under pressure is an example to us all. Back in the day, he rode along with the Posse in our RV; he remains our “directeur sportif” emeritus.  

While we ride for Paul, we also rode in memory of our dear friend John Shanahan who passed away in 2018 while riding with me on vacation. John was the connection point for everyone on the Posse. A kinder soul never walked the earth. We miss him!

As always, I also ride in honor of the loved ones of all my friends who have fought cancer. This includes my father-in-law, who beat back the beast more than 20 years ago and passed away this year at 93.

Many of you will know that I am a cancer thriver myself, having been diagnosed with leukemia in 2021. The drug I take was developed at Dana-Farber.
