#4 Ride, Let's Kick Cancer's Butt!
Let's kick cancer's butt!
2004 was my first experience with the PMC volunteering for food and beverage for the Bedford PMC Kids Ride with my mom and some other family members. Ever since then I have been volunteering every year moving from food and beverage to photographing the event. It is amazing to see how many families and children are supporting the cause to beat cancer once and for all. From Wally's Way (Obstacle course for trikes) to Fenway (12 miles) there are all ages coming out to support the Pan Mass Challenge.
After about a decade of volunteering for the Kids Ride I wanted more so I decided to volunteer at the Provincetown Inn with my mom handing out beverages and occassionaly pouring beer (let me tell you, riders are SO grateful for that first sip of ice cold beer thanks to Harpoon). Every rider who came through the finish line in P-town thanked us for volunteering for this great event. It's amazing to see how many volunteers come out to help make the whole weekend a success!
I completed my first three rides with Team Lick Cancer in honor of Laura Chochrek and Kerry Carr, among many beloved others from friends, family, and co-workers whom I wore ribbons with their name on my jersey during the 1st day. I cannot begin to describe the feeling of that first day seeing a group of people come together wearing the same jersery and the comaraderie throughout the entire weekend, cheering people on as you pass by and the many kids and adults saying thank you. It's the best reward you could ask for 186 miles later. I cannot wait to start training again for my fourth PMC as a heavy hitter (I hit $10k in donations in 2023) in 2024 to ride along thousands of supporters, family members, riders living proof and other's stories on why they ride.
100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
