I won’t lie to you. I enjoy riding. It’s no major sacrifice for me to participate in the PMC. It is an honor though to be a part of something that has become such an integral part of Dana Farber’s funding, providing 55% of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue!
The route is lined with people cheering and thanking the riders. There are numerous children holding signs with messages like, “Thanks to you I’m alive today.” Riding with a lump in your throat is something one gets used to.
Though not a sacrifice, maybe because it’s no sacrifice, I feel an obligation to do my part.
In 2020 and 2021, creating and riding our own PMC Reimagined routes due to the pandemic, we raised $50 million and $64 million respectively. 2023 hit the $72 million mark, which put the total since 1980 at OVER $900 million!! PMC funds are largely used to immediately fund research that would otherwise be delayed with grant writing and other red tape....potentially making a therapy or cure available to patients years earlier. THIS YEAR, THE PMC WILL BREAK THE $1 BILLION MARK!

My dad died in 1997 at the age of 68, from melanoma (skin cancer) that spread to his lungs, brain, and liver. My mother battled squamous cell skin cancer for 10 years. My 33 year-old neice and godchild, Kaitlyn, already beat stage 3 breast cancer. As I write this, my father-in-law, Alan, thanks to amazing advancements, is in YEAR 3 managing pancreatic cancer. Research like that funded through the PMC has bought us at least 2 years with him!!!
A couple of years ago, one of my teammates' 19 year-old daughter, Miranda McKeon, was diagnosed with Stage 3 aggressive breast cance that has involved her lymph nodes....a literal one-in-a-million diagnosis. She curagiously chronicalled her journey through treatments on her blog and instagram.
