Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I lost my dear old dad this winter to a long battle with cancer. Diagnosed in 2016 with stage four throat cancer, his six-year battle was made possible by guts, grit, and the specialized treatment he received at Dana Farber and other cutting edge facilities. I couldn’t be more grateful for those extra years with my dad. During that time, he officiated my wedding, held and kissed my baby, helped renovate my first house, and spent additional, cherished quality time with us.
Shortly after his funeral, some close friends approached me with a proposition: will you ride with us to raise money for cancer research and treatment? This would afford me the opportunity to connect with good friends, reestablish an exercise routine, and get involved with a cause I care deeply about. I could not think of a better way to commemorate and celebrate my Dad’s legacy. I said: “count me in!”
The Pan Mass Challenge is one of the oldest and biggest fundraisers in the country. It is incredibly well-resourced, with a 100% pass-through for all donations. My personal fundraising goal is $6,000; our team goal is $36,000. The ride spans 182 miles from Stockbridge to Provincetown - the length of the state of Massachussettes. We will be fundraising and training in the lead-up to August 5-6.
I am additionally excited to be paired with our “pedal partner” - 4 year old Casey. Casey, a charismatic young man known as “the mayor,” was linked up with our team as a way to connect riders with children fighting cancer. We had the opportunity to meet Casey and his family earlier this Spring. While it was gut-wrenching to see such a vibrant, kind young boy have to battle leukemia, his attitude and spirit were incredibly inspiring.
And so, we ride for Ted Foden and Casey. And all those who need help and support in their fight against cancer. Please support our efforts this year to raise money for Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund!
With love and gratitude,
Bogie
