It’s year two of our cycling fundraiser for Team Beans.
A friend and CNN colleague of mine, Andrew Kaczynski, lost his beautiful nine-month-old daughter, Francesca, to a rare form of brain cancer in 2020. Francesca’s - aka Beans’ - fight with cancer and the strength her parents showed throughout it inspired anyone who knows them and launched what has come to be known as Team Beans. To learn more about their fight, I’d recommend this piece on how Andrew ran the Boston Marathon in honor of Beans.
Last year, a group of us rode a century - over 100 miles - in honor of Beans and to raise money for Francesca’s fund at Dana Farber, the hospital in Boston that provided her with wonderful care at the end of her life.
This year, we are adding to it. Here is the plan: A roughly 111-mile ride from Washington, DC to Baltimore to Annapolis and back home. This will be the longest I have ever ridden in one day. I am aiming to do this in September.
I have committed to raise at least $2,000 for cancer research as part of this ride and I was hoping you could help me achieve this goal. All donations -- which go through an in-person bike race known as the Pan Mass Challenge -- are tax deductible and 100% will go to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Truly, even $20 can go a long way.
