I am riding again for PMC . Every day I am blessed with the reminder of those who are living proof like my twin sister and her husband. Most of you know my twin's story, her husband's occupational cancer and my mother's melanoma. My mum is a sign making master when it comes to my sister's team. She will make a sign in a parking lot on the fly and then drive around strategically setting them up along the route. Sadly, this year we lost my godmother. She was so special to me and watching her fight again and lose her battle with cancer was one of the worst things I've witnessed.
The first time I rode was during Covid. I had just signed up to ride because my godmother had been diagnosed with her second bought of cancer. I am not sure if it was the ride alone or just the fact that I was riding in memory of Charles or because I was thinking of my godmother, but my heart was heavy. Typically riding is one of my favorite things to do, but on that day I just wanted the ride to end. Though many have triumphed and beat cancer, there are still many fighting hard and others whose battles have sadly ended like Charles who will be forever young, a cherished son and brother. Why some have to go through this battle and others don't is a mystery to me. Why some are able to beat it and others are not, I will never understand. Why my identical twin sister and not me? But I'm hoping the little we do to ease it for them and their families by fundraising makes some kind of difference.
Please consider donating to the Pan Mass Challenge. If you would like to become involved and not sure about the ride, consider volunteering; you won't regret it!
