In August 2010 my life forever changed, my then 2 1/2 year nephew Ty was diagnosed with an extra renal rhabdoid tumor a very rare and aggressive tumor. The news literally brought me to my knees. I didn't know how my brother Lou, his wife Cindy, Ty his baby brother Gavin and the rest of my family would be able to deal with this devastating news. The prognosis was not good! Almost two years later, several operations, chemo and radiation therapy, Ty has beat the odds and is still fighting strong! Please visit his mom's blog @ www.superty.org for the full story.
The thing is after watching my family, especially my Ty suffer and I mean suffer, you can't believe that with all the technology we have today they can't heal these children! So so many children, too many children! Research costs money, so we NEED to raise money to find a cure!
Feeling as helpless as I do I figure the only way to insure that Ty gets the help he needs, along with all the other children is to raise money to fund the many protocols available!
In November 2011 my Brother Lou & I ran the NYC Marathon as members of Fred Team for Sloan-Kettering where Ty has received most of his treatment. Together we raised over $30,0000! With Ty's recent set back (possible necrosis from radiation) I'm not sure if Lou will be able to team up with me but I intend to raise at least $20,000.00 on my own! There are so many children hurting! You hear of these families that are affected and never think it will be your family, at least that what I thought. Unfortunately it can be any one of us, cancer does not discriminate!
Ty is now receiving therapy at Blythdale hospital and every day being transported to Phelps Memorial for oxygen therapy. I can't begin to tell you how amazing this little boy is. He has beaten all the odds and will continue to do so! Ty is the sweetest, most caring determined baby I have ever seen! He is happy, optimistic. has the spirit of a warrior and is so very innocent!. I refuse to sit back and accept the situation, it is completely unfair that these beautiful innocent children should have to suffer!!! CANCER IS DISGUSTING AND MUST BE STOPPED!
