Pushing for breakthroughs in cancer research and medicines
I lead clinical research for multiple biotech companies trying to make innovative medicines for cancer. It takes a community such as these private sector companies working with leading hospitals and most importantly cancer patients to make true breakthrouhs. In that capacity, I have had the privilege of working with Dana Farber on mutiple occasions to test new medicines for cancer in patients. This Februrary I got to meet a handful of the doctors who directly receive funds raised by our cycling team The Flames. I assure you the docs I met at Dana Farber are doing cutting edge research in blood cancers (and several of them ride with us). In fact, they use this money for high risk-high reward projects that are often too early to receive other funding, such as from the government. The dedication these gifted oncologists, researchers, nurses and most importantly patients show every day is the best way to make progress against cancer.
Inspiration also flows from a fellow Flame teamate who has a type of blood cancer that I helped develop an approved medicine for several years back. He is well enough to sign up for 182 miles of cycling over 2 days - now that is inspiring! This is the kind of experience that reminds me why we work so hard every day to push the envelope for better medicines.
Please suport this bike ride, where literally 100% of funds I raise go to researchers I know and respect at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Sincerely, David
