This is the fifth year that I will be riding in honor and memory of my mom, Ann Powers, who passed away 2021 from a brief but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. My mom was an energetic, generous, and loving person that would always show up to gatherings of friends and family with a smile that would light up the room. She is greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. This year, I'm again opting for the two-day long ride for 200 miles starting in Sturbridge, MA and ending in Provincetown MA. I'm hoping to bring the same enthusiasm and team spirit to the PMC that my mom brought to everything she did.
This year, like last year, I'm directing 100% of all proceeds raised to the Team Velominati Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research. So far, this fund raised over $400,000 specifically for Pancreatic Cancer Research in hopes of finding new treatments to cure this terrible disease.
My family is incredibly grateful for all the support we received over the years from so many generous donors. We are proud to support the PMC because they are leading a charge to eradicate cancer. Last year, 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure for cancer.
By the time they found my mom's cancer it was too late, but I'm hoping that with advances in early detection and diagnostics, these aggressive types of cancer can be caught and treated earlier. It's important to me and my family to support organizations like Dana-Farber so that future generations can benefit from their ground-breaking research.
