I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
This year, I am riding the 192 mile route from Sturbridge to Provincetown on "Kevin's Extreme Team" which is part of the larger Team Lungstrong (see more information on both below). This team honors the memory of Kevin Hanlon who touched so many lives including mine. He had an indomitable spirit and more energy than anyone I have ever met. Kevin lost his battle to a rare form of lung cancer this year.
From Diane Legg: Team Lungstrong Leader:
This year we have a team within a team with the addition of “Kevin’s Extreme Team”, which comprises of 15 riders. As most of you know, fellow teammate Kevin Hanlon, passed away last July from lung cancer. His daughter, Lily has been a part of our team for the past two years and his brother Robert, rode with us last year. In addition to Lily and Robert, Kevin’s wife, Denise joins us as well as 12 of his close friends. Kevin’s Extreme Team is a group of Kevin’s friends that have been participating in Kevin’s Extreme Day Adventures for over 20 years, which Kevin organized. These adventures included hiking up and over the Adirondack High Peaks, riding up Whiteface Mountain on a road bike, canoeing mountain lakes/streams, jumping from cliffs and everything in between. This year the group will take on the PMC with Team LUNGSTRONG! I’m honored that Kevin’s family and friends will be joining us this year.

Dear Friend/Sponsor
LUNGSTRONG is a non-profit organization committed to funding innovative lung cancer research. To date, our
organization has helped fund over $4,000,000 in lung cancer research.
On August 1 & 2, 2020, LUNGSTRONG will once again support a team of cyclists that will join more than 5,500
other cyclists in the 41st Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC). The PMC is an annual bike-a-thon that spans up
to 190 miles and raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country. It holds the promise
of helping eradicate cancer which affects millions each year by funding research at the Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute (DFCI) in Boston. The PMC donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to the cause.
This is Team LUNGSTRONG’s 11th year and we currently have over 80 riders committed for 2020. In the last 10
years the team has raised close to $3,400,000! One hundred percent of the money raised by Team
LUNGSTRONG goes to innovative lung cancer research under the direction of Dr. Pasi Jänne, Director of the
Lowe Center of Thoracic Oncology, at DFCI.
Currently we are looking for sponsors for Team LUNGSTRONG. Your sponsorship will help the team secure
new team riding jerseys, support organized training rides, and support our largest fundraiser, ‘Live It Up
LUNGSTRONG.’ By securing sponsorships we allow our team members to concentrate on their own individual
fundraising initiatives while helping them close any gaps they might have. Please see sponsorship levels on the
following page.
Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, killing more Americans each year than the next top four
cancer killers combined (breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic). Yet it is the least funded, relative to its
mortality rate. More than sixty percent of those diagnosed with lung cancer either never smoked or no longer
smoke and haven’t for decades. Because symptoms for lung cancer usually go undetected until it has progressed
to a late stage, the dismal survival rates are only 17 percent for five years.
The impact that lung cancer has on families of all ages is tremendous. Many of Team LUNGSTRONG riders have been
touched by this disease in a very personal way. We know that by supporting the innovative lung cancer research being
done at DFCI, we will be making a difference in the lives of others that may be touched by lung cancer.
I know we are living in unprecedented times due to COVID-19 and recognize that many people and businesses
are suffering because of it. At the same time, continued research for lung cancer remains critical. We
appreciate anything you can do to help. For more information about LUNGSTRONG visit our website at
