On August 2nd and 3rd I will be riding in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and as in past years I am writing to ask for your support through a contribution in support of the Jimmy Fund.

The PMC is a two-day event whose sole mission is to raise money to benefit the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). Since its inception in 1980 the PMC has grown to become New England’s oldest and the nation’s most successful athletic fund-raising events, and in 2025 surpassed over $1 Billion in donations to the Jimmy Fund in its 45-year history.

Surely $1 Billion is enough money to beat this terrible disease, right? Unfortunately that’s not the case. Cancer isn’t just a single disease. There are hundreds of different types of cancer, each with its own unique characteristics and treatment options. There have been incredible achievements in cancer treatment and doctors and researchers continue to make great progress, but there’s so much more work to be done.

The PMC is the single biggest donor to the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, responsible for over 60% of that organization’s revenue. More importantly, 100% of all rider raised donations go directly to DFCI to support cancer research. Many, many people are alive today due to this research; research wouldn’t be possible without events like the PMC, and without support from the tens of thousands of people that support the event, by riding, volunteering and donating to this worthy cause.

The PMC is incredibly personal for me and I know that this event is making a difference. I have friends that have battled and beat cancer but I’ve also lost family and friends to, including my mother in 2022.

2025 will be my 28th PMC, which means I’ve been riding it for more than half my life. I can’t imagine a summer without it, although I hope someday we get to a point where it’s not needed. Until then, I’ll keep riding.

The primary means of fundraising for the PMC is through the efforts of individual riders. As a rider, my personal fundraising goal this year is a minimum of $3,000, and I can’t do this without your help. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.
