After a few years off (for a variety of reasons), this will be my 11th time officially riding the Pan Mass Challenge.
As many of you know the PMC is a bike ride that raises money for cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. On Saturday August 3rd, I will begin my 162 mile journey from Wellesley to Provincetown Massachusetts with Team 3G. This team was started a few years ago by my friend Amy Fradkin in honor of her husband Gregg, who is battling lung cancer. The fact that he is still alive and doing well speaks to the amazing breakthroughs we have seen in cancer treatment over the last decade or two. My family also has been touched by this terrible disease. My mother-in-law, Susan, died within 5 months of her lung cncer diagnosis, at the age of 49 just one year after Wendy and I were married. Though she never met our daughters, Suzy is named in her memory. We miss her every day yet marvel at how far lung cancer treatments have advanced.
Since its inception in 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for the Dana Farber, and will cross the $1 BILLION mark this year!!! I am honored and humbled to help this cause. The best part is 100% of the money raised goes directly to to fund this important research.
We have a lot to be thankful for in the battle against cancer, yet cancer remains a leading cause of death in the US with many patients and families suffering. Many think that the hardest part of the PMC is the bike ride. For me, actually, I find the fundraising more difficult. I again am reaching out to you -- my family and friends, -- to help me raise more money than I have ever raised before for a battle which has touched me, my wife and daughters deeply and personally.
I've made a personal commitment to ride PMC 2024 and raise $6,000.00. I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal.
