In the summer of 2018 my good friend from Stonehill College - Paul Falvey - recruited me to join Team Blue Hills Bank and participate in my very first PMC. I did that ride in memory of my Aunt Patricia Mullins, my father-in-law George O'Brien, DDS and my wife Teresa's good friend and college roommate (Dee Galina). All were taken by cancer, all at a way too young stage in life.
Simply put, it was an amazing experience. The camraderie, the support of the volunteers, and the graciousness of the spectators and communities along the ride was exceptional. The signs of thanks along the route provided all the motivation needed to get through any tough stretches. The ride is a 2-day 200 mile bike ride from Sturbridge, MA to Provincetown, MA.
Fast forward to 2022 and our oldest daughter Kate and her then fiance (now husband) Rich Robbie decided to do the PMC for the first time in support of Team CRUSH11Tour. Team CRUSH11Tour was formed in memory of Davey Hovey, who played lacrosse at Saint Lawrence University (and wore #11) and lost his battle with Glioblastoma at age 26. Kate and Rich have become friends with Davey's brother Tommy, and his wife Lucie. When the team, family and friends gathered at The Squire in Chatham MA for a post-race get together, my daughter Kate asked - Dad, how about next year? I was hooked.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
