Why I Ride ...
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. Last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I am raising for Lungstrong and donations should be made for rider # BK0149.
My dear brother-in-law - Dave Sachs - has inspired me in his honor to get into the 'reimagined' ride again! He road strong and proud as part of Diane Legg's Team Lungstrong, and in his loving memory, I am joining the team again in this year to help raise funds given the challenging COVID environment. The PMC, and being part of this team, made Dave 'proud' to be a Stage IV lung cancer survivor. That was Dave; someone, who, as he was battling for his life, found great joy in the community and comradery in fighting and riding together. He was quite conscious of the stigma associated with Lung Cancer. It was bad enough telling people he had stage IV cancer when on the outside he looked strong and strapping; it was even harder, when it was lung cancer, as if somehow you caused it yourself. Not Dave! He lived a full, healthy life and his idea of a good time was the scariest rollercoaster he could find and a great mountain bike route...neither for the faint of heart. That was part of the irony, he had two of the strongest lungs and with them he breathed in life to its fullest.
In his memory, we are determined to help others have a longer fight and someday a cure, and someday a prevention. Please join me in honoring Dave's miles in life and my road ahead in his loving memory. One year of participation was not enough. Not for Dave! and not for me.
