Why I Ride ...
I'm riding in the PMC again to be part of the extraordinary collective fight against cancer. We've come so far -- cancers that used to be killers can be beaten now, and even terminal patients are seeing months and years added to their lives, often high quality ones, through ongoing research discoveries. My wife Mandy is a great example of this-- she had more than two good years left after being diagnosed with a condition that, 10 years earlier, would have ended her life in weeks.
This year, the private fundraising impetus is stronger than ever, in light of President Trump's attack on cancer research. (More coverage.) We can fight the good fight on the political front, but in the meantime, people who do want to help cancer patients should step up even more.
Mandy died in February 2023. She and I loved our bikes, and I can think of no better way to honor her than the PMC. She'd love the physical challenge, the camaraderie, the beautiful scenes on Cape Cod and the contribution to the cancer cause. If any part of the money we raise can fund a new research project that can help others who find themselves in Mandy's shoes... even if it's just to add one more Easter Sunday or baseball game to their lives -- Mandy would be very proud of us.
Please, if you're able, join me in this great cause. Give all that you can. The PMC is a great investment. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
