Why I Ride ...
My Uncle Mike was a hard working construction foreman who led projects in Boston including building the entrance to the Ted Williams Tunnel and projects on Deer Island. In his free time you could find him snow skiing and water skiing with family and friends.
He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia 15 years ago at the age of 48. Six months after his diagnosis, he received a bone marrow transplant at Dana-Farber from a generous anonymous donor. After the transplant he recovered and had a couple of good years. During that time he went back to work and even had the time and energy to teach me and my sister, Ashley how to water ski! Despite best efforts, Uncle Mike passed in the fall of 2015 after battling graft v. host disease - his body not fully accepting the new marrow.
Throughout his struggle he received the support of his dedicated and compassionate team at Dana-Farber and the opportunity to try the latest treatments. With Dana-Farber's support, Uncle Mike had several years of additional time with his family and friends.
We ride for him. LETS FIND A CURE! THANK YOU!!!!!
