Dear friends,
I will ride once again to help stomp out cancer. With all the ups and downs in the world today one thing has not changed and that is my passion to fight for those with cancer and to fight for a cure. I, like many of you, have lost more friends and family to this terrible disease over the past few years. Whether it’s thinking about someone close to my heart or seeing the children’s faces along the course of the ride who have had to battle a disease at such a young age, each year I am filled with emotion and determination to make a difference. I will keep fighting and hope that by doing my part, we will get to the end of this battle and beat cancer once and for all!
As most of you know I ride the PMC with team Bikers Dozen which is now over 35 riders/fighters strong. I am proud to write that my team has raised over $4 million for the PMC and 100% of the money donated goes directly to cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!
I am pleased to report that as a direct result of your support we are making progress. The Biker’s Dozen monies have gone to support the research for pediatric brain tumors, both Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG) and Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytomas (PLGA), under the direction of Dr. Mark W. Kieran at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds have helped attract a level of scientific talent and a degree of focus on these diseases in the brain tumor research community that few thought was possible. Every year Dr. Kieran updates our team with his progress and he continues to express his optimism as they develop new protocols and clinical trials for these two deadly tumors.
We have a lot to be thankful for but there is still much work to be done. There is NO federal funding, NO National Institute of Health funding and NO pharmaceutical funding! All research funding comes from private donations -- like yours.
I hope I can count on your support
The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, Over $1 BILLION since 1980 and $75 million last year alone! This success is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure. The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiently, donating 100% percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause.
