Thank you for taking the time to read why I'm riding the Pan-Mass Challenge again this year.
In a letter written to the PMC by a first-time rider, a woman compared the PMC with the Boston Marathon. She said the difference is that when you run the Boston Marathon people on the side support you saying “you can do it” but in the PMC the supporters share pictures like the ones above and yell “Thank you”. It’s those people and faces that keep me coming back year after year to support such a great cause because we ARE making a difference!
On August 3rd and 4th, I plan to ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge for the 14th time. As most of you know I ride the PMC with team Bikers Dozen, which is now over 35 riders. I am proud to share that with your help, my team has raised over $4.1 million for the PMC. The best part is that 100% of the money donated goes directly to cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute!
We direct our monies to support the research for two types of pediatric brain tumors, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG) and Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytomas (PLGA) at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds have helped attract a level of scientific talent and a degree of focus on these diseases in the brain tumor research community that few thought possible. We chose to support this particular cancer because of a personal team loss and because this research only exists on private funding — there is no federal funding, no National Institute of Health funding and no pharmaceutical funding. Your dollars are having a huge impact and are making a difference!
I ask for you support once again
The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, $972 million since 1980 and $72 million last year alone! This year we expect to break $1 Billion, and 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause.
