In February 2021, my Father-in-law (to be at the time), Peter O'Neil, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. Despite all of the stories you hear of families and individuals affected by cancer, you're never prepared for that news. As crushed as all of us were by the diagnosis, the family always looked ahead to what do we do next. That's where Dana Farber came in. The doctors, nurses, and staff offered constant extraodinary support for not only my Father-in-Law, but also my Mother-in-Law, my wife, sister-in-laws, and brother-in-law. They were informative, respectful, and incredibly relentless in their efforts.
My father-in-law was an inspiration to those around him. He moved people with his kindness, humor, and story telling. Regardless of his diagnosis, he stayed active throughout his life through golf, volleyball, and most importantly bike riding. We thought of no better way to honor him than to ride 211 miles (which happens to be 100x longer than I've ever ridden a bike).
The PMC holds near and dear to my heart. I ride with my wife, Mary Gusha, and a couple of our closest friends, Tyler and Mary Wiseman, in memory of a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Father-in-law, among others and hope that our ride will honor Peter O'Neil and contribute to Dana-Farber to ensure that current and future patients experience the same support that my father-in-law received.
Please join us as we continue the quest to kick cancer's ass.
