Why I Ride in the PMC

Dear Friends and Family,

This is my 3rd year riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge to raise funds for cancer treatment and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Life can change quickly, especially when least expected. In February of this year my nephew AJ was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia (AML), which altered his first year of college and quickly changed the priorities of those close to him. Thankfully he is responding very well to an extremely harsh chemotherapy protocol, and without any complaining. He just finished his 4th cycle of chemotherapy (out of 5 cycles) and has been in remission since Cycle 1. His strength and resilience throughout his treatment have forced me to reconsider how to respond to a tough challenge. AJ's treatment protocol was developed by the Children's Oncology Group (COG) that is a consortium of leading research centers, and Dana Farber is a leading participant in the COG.

In addition to AJ, my close friend and neighbor Becky is successfully being treated at Dana Farber for cancer. Becky is also very upbeat every day I see her, and I know she will do well on the other side of her treatment because of the research and patient resources at Dana Farber.

I am riding in this year's PMC on August 2-3 in honor of AJ and Becky, knowing that a large part of the progress they are making against their cancers is due to research and patient resources funded by individuals like you. My 2-day ride will start in Wellesley, MA and finish at the tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown, MA. I am tasked with raising a minimum of $6,000 for the PMC but have set a goal of $9,000. Last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support cancer research and patient care through the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I hope you can help me reach my fundraising goal.
