When I first heard about the PMC I thought no wayyyy I am doing that. After a long and hard (not really) consideration I decided I should give it a try because not only is the ride is a good opportunity to get fit as well but it will also support a good cause. Before I say anymore, all donations go to the Dana-Farber Foundation which essentially uses donations to provide the best cancer treatment possible to people in need as well as work to develop cures for the future. Now that you know who you are donating to, here’s why you should. So here I am with no bike, I’ve never even cycled on the road, and I was going to ride 50 miles! We (as in my dad and I, and if I only say I that means I payed for whatever i’m talking about haha) figured the first step was getting a bike, that is in fact, not even a proper road bike, but I’ll make do. We bought it off craigslist because personally I’m not the type of person that buys a 4 thousand dollar bike (at least not yet). As we brought it home we realized it was ALL black and that is kind of boring if you ask me so I added neon green water bottle cages to spruce it up because why wouldn’t I? The next issue was I didn’t have bike racks but I did have cross rails on my car so I set out to find some. The racks I ended up getting we actually a really lucky find because they were volvo racks so they fit my car perfectly! (lucky because once again from craigslist haha). Once I had everything I actually needed to start riding we set out. The first ride was only ten miles and let me tell you it was the worst experience of my life, I even had to lie down on a rock by the side of the road at one point. I somehow made it though that ‘tough time’ and got to the end of the ride which I still don’t know how I did it. The next ride was a bit better except for when I turned around mid way because 18 miles was too far but let’s not mention that. By ride three I had gotten the hang of this road biking thing and started feeling pretty good about it except for when I almost slid under a passing truck but once again let’s not talk about that haha. By ride 4 we had introduced clip in shoes and I actually managed to get the hang of them super quickly except for when I almost fell over at a stop sign, but once again we won’t mention it (noticing a theme?). Bringing it back to the present I have, as of current, completed 12 rides and have ridden about 215 miles in total and I will continue to update these numbers as they grow. So the only thing left to do is to fundraise, A LOT! So help me out :) it’s for a good cause and even a little helps me get closer to my goal. It’s been a wild journey already but I’m ready to go all the way. Thank you in advance and peace out y’all...
